With a faint
scent, the
breeze delivered
a reminder that sweet
peas were
climbing the
trellis beside
Sol’s place.
Miniature pools
of dew collected
in the basins of
blooms, a
droplet
sometimes
cascading down
the arch of a
leaf like a
skier. Pink rose
petals fell
softly upon the
earth, curling
brown at their
edges where the
sun had parched
them. A tiny
warbler uttered
flutes of sound
that sweetened
the summer air.
It bounced along
the branches of
a japonica until
others joined
in. Upon
observation,
this simple
setting was
teeming with
life’s changing
energy. |
